How much does tree removal cost in Sydney?

A plain-English guide to what drives the price, and how to get a number that is actually accurate.

It is the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends. Tree removal in Sydney and the Hills can run from a couple of hundred dollars for a small tree to several thousand for a large crane job. Here is what actually moves the price.

The main things that affect cost

Size of the tree

This is the big one. A small ornamental tree is quick work. A mature eucalypt that needs to be climbed and dismantled section by section is a different job entirely, with more time, more crew and more gear.

Access

Can a chipper and truck get close, or does everything have to be carried out by hand through a narrow side gate? Tight access on the big acreage blocks around Dural and Glenorie can add time, and time is cost.

What is around the tree

A tree in an open paddock can sometimes be felled in one. A tree leaning over the house, near powerlines or beside a pool has to be carefully rigged or craned down, which takes longer and needs more skill.

Clean-up and stump

Removing and chipping the branches is usually included. Grinding the stump and carting away large trunk wood can be extra, depending on what you want done.

Rough guide for the Hills

  • Small trees: often a few hundred dollars
  • Medium trees: typically the mid hundreds to low thousands
  • Large gums and crane removals: usually several thousand, depending on the job

These are general ranges only, not a quote. Every tree is different, which is why a photo or a site visit is the only way to get an accurate number.

How to get an accurate quote

The quickest way is to text us a photo of the tree with your suburb. Stand back so we can see the whole tree and what is around it. For larger jobs we will come out and quote on site for free. Either way, you get a clear price up front with no surprises.

A word on cheap quotes

Tree work is dangerous, and proper insurance, qualifications and equipment cost money. A quote that seems too good to be true often means an uninsured operator, which can leave you liable if something goes wrong. Always check that whoever you use is fully insured and qualified.
